ABOUT TRAFFiC EXPERiMENT
TRAFFiC EXPERiMENT are a three-piece alternative/progressive rock band from Guildford, UK, mixing elements of rock, electronic, blues, funk and acoustic with experimental sounds and textures to create their own brand of cinematic rock music.
Formed in 2006 by astrophysics graduate and guitarist/composer Stuart Chalmers, along with session drummer Tom Vincent and session bassist Simon James White, graduates of the Academy of Contemporary Music and the London Music School respectively, the trio recorded their first full album, Blue Suburbia, at Woodworm Studios in the rural countryside of Oxfordshire, formerly the private studio of folk band Fairport Convention.
Inspired by the unrestricted compositional approach of artists like Pink Floyd and Radiohead, and placing artistic ambition over commercial formulae, the band have become known for their atmospheric, multi-layered, and often extended, compositions.
Blue Suburbia took Traffic Experiment four years to complete. With its recurring musical and lyrical themes, accompanying visuals and ranging dynamics, it was very much created as a work to be listened to in full from beginning to end, each track flowing into the next.
The album also features the vocals of Harri Norris, then only seventeen when recording her parts - most notably the opening section of 'Sirens'.
Produced by Stuart Chalmers, engineered by Steve Hill and mastered by Pink Floyd's Andy Jackson, Blue Suburbia was released in 2010 on the band's own self-titled label, Traffic Experiment Music.
